| Mr.Ervin D. Abiad BSCS Batch 2006 Distinguished Alumni Awardee 2016 Cluster Level |
Ervin has shown great fortitude and perseverance in achieving his dreams. He took Diploma
in Computer and Electronics Technology at STI College Balayan while working as
a crew in Jollibee and also a scholar of Batangas Provincial Scholarship
Program. Despite the demands of his work, he was able to graduate with honors
and was a Guaranteed Hired Program (GHP) Awardee in 2001.
He
pursued his bachelor degree as a working student also in the same college. He
served as a Student Assistant from 2002-2006 and during those times he was also
active in the different activities held at the school. He represented STI Balayan
for 3 consecutive years in Tagisan ng Talino Into Programming competition. When
he graduated Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2006, he received
various awards like the Extra-Curricular and Academic Recognitions. He was chosen
as the Programmer of the Year Awardee because he showed excellence in different
software programming platforms.
While
still a working student, he was an active member of Kabataang Lingkod ng
Simbahan (KALIS) and the Singles for Christ in Calatagan, Batangas. He was a
diligent member working with the team in organizing, coordinating and
facilitating different activities for the youth like the Youth Camp.
He worked
for his Alma Mater from 2006 to 2008 as an IT Instructor and Program head of the
Diploma in E-Commerce Program (DEP). In his time as DEP Program Head, he headed
the outreach program for the children around Ermita, Balayan and also the
Recollection for all DEP students.
When he
accepted employment outside STI Balayan, he still served his Alma Mater by
providing training and support to students who are participants of TNT Into
Programming competition. He also honored his school by being one of the judges
in the said competition for 3 years consecutively. His excellence in the field
of programming befitted him to become a Resource Speaker in different schools where
he was invited.
In his
busy work schedule, he still finds time to join activities that will make him
grow spiritually and to be of service to others. Currently, he is a member of
the Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus is a religious group under the
Catholic Church formed to render financial aid to members. They also offer help
to the sick, disabled and needy members of the group. They conduct social and
intellectual fellowship among members as well.
As a
family man, Ervin married his college girlfriend who is also an Alumnus and
currently the BSIT Program Head of STI College Balayan, Maria Richelle Quiroz-Abiad and is blessed with
their one year old boy.
